The former Hershey Bears captain returns to Chocolatetown for the first time since the 2024 Calder Cup Finals after clearing waivers.

Washington Capitals defenseman Dylan McIlrath has cleared waivers and will report to the AHL's Hershey Bears. The move was made to create roster space following Washington's trade for goaltender Remi Poirier from the New Jersey Devils. McIlrath previously served as Hershey's captain and returns to the AHL club for the first time since the 2024 Calder Cup Finals.
McIlrath appeared in four games for Washington this season and played 43 total games with the Capitals since joining as a free agent in 2021. He signed a two-year, one-way contract worth $800,000 per season last summer. The defenseman is expected to rejoin Hershey ahead of their Wednesday game against the Hartford Wolf Pack.
