New York Rangers starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin exited Friday's 3-1 loss against the Washington Capitals due to a lower-body injury. Shesterkin was hurt during a net-front scramble when his skate jammed against the goal post. He remained on the ice in visible pain and required assistance off the ice while putting no weight on his leg.
The Rangers now await medical updates regarding Shesterkin, who had helped the team win four of its first five games. Backup goaltender Dylan Garand, 24, represents the team's current alternative in net if Shesterkin faces an extended absence.
