Winnipeg veterans and roster hopefuls struggled to find momentum in a lackluster home finale, eventually falling in overtime after a controversial Oilers goal soured the opening frame.
The Winnipeg Jets lost 2-1 in overtime to the Edmonton Oilers in pre-season action on Tuesday at Canada Life Centre. Alex Iafallo opened the scoring for Winnipeg in the first period, but Edmonton responded two minutes later with a goal from Atro Lappanen. Viljami Marjala scored the game-winner for the Oilers 1:26 into overtime following a setup by Zach Hyman.
Winnipeg goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis made 21 saves on 23 shots in the exhibition defeat. Jets head coach Scott Arniel opted not to challenge Lappanen's equalizer despite contact between Hyman and DiVincentiis. The contest marked Winnipeg's final home game of the shortened pre-season schedule.
