So what happens with Walker and Hudson Young and the Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders now?
The Sydney Roosters have withdrawn their contract extension offer for star halfback Sam Walker following a breakdown in negotiations. Walker and his management had reportedly sought around $1.4 million per season with ratchet clauses across a three-year deal. However, after his management requested further adjustments following a Monday deadline, Roosters chairman Nick Politis pulled the contract offer entirely and is reportedly open to letting the playmaker depart if he secures a deal elsewhere for 2027.
Walker's contract dispute mirrors a similar situation with Canberra Raiders forward Hudson Young, whose club withdrew a historic five-year offer following stalled talks. Walker, who recently guided the Roosters to a premiership and debuted for the Australian Kangaroos, remains contracted through next season. His manager, Clinton Schifcofske, stated that Walker remains focused on representing Australia and fulfilling his Roosters commitments next year.
