Newcastle Knights captain Kalyn Ponga has reflected on his leadership growth ahead of Sunday's preliminary final against Penrith. Ponga acknowledged he was not ready when first appointed co-captain alongside Jayden Brailey in 2022, but credited new coach Justin Holbrook with providing the clarity and support needed to thrive in the role.
Under Holbrook's guidance during the 2026 campaign, the 2023 Dally M Medal winner recommitted to Newcastle on a contract running through at least the end of 2030, with a club option for two additional seasons.
