Kangaroos star Sam Walker will hit the open market for 2028 having rejected a contract extension offer from current club Sydney Roosters.

Sydney Roosters half-back Sam Walker will enter the open market after contract extension talks collapsed. The NRL club announced that their offer extending beyond the 2027 season was officially withdrawn following an inability to agree on terms with Walker's management, paving the way for his departure when his existing contract concludes.
The 24-year-old playmaker recently helped guide the Roosters to an NRL Premiership with a 19-18 Grand Final victory over Newcastle Knights. Walker also marked his Kangaroos debut with a try in Australia's 36-22 win over Fiji shortly before the announcement.
