The star fullback was set to miss the rest of the tournament.

Fullback Kalyn Ponga is targeting a surprising return from a broken forearm to play for New Zealand during the Rugby League World Cup finals. Ponga suffered the injury in the opening match against Australia, but he has rejoined the squad on the Gold Coast, participating in fitness drills and light passing with his arm heavily strapped.
New Zealand coach Stacey Jones confirmed that Ponga has not been ruled out of the tournament and remains a week-to-week proposition. While Ponga faces a slim chance of being fit for the semi-finals, he is reportedly firming to take part in the final if New Zealand qualifies.
