The Story in 60 Seconds

Cronulla Sharks-bound forward Owen Trout served a previously undisclosed one-month suspension earlier this year following a positive drug test. UK Anti-Doping confirmed the Leigh Leopards player tested positive for carboxy-THC after a Super League match against Wakefield Trinity on March 20, 2026. Leigh Leopards had publicly attributed his absence between May 22 and June 21 to personal reasons.

Trout received a reduced one-month ban after admitting to consuming cannabis gummies and joints, and subsequently completing a Substance of Abuse treatment program. The 27-year-old forward has signed a two-year contract with Cronulla, making him the Sharks' first British signing in nearly fifty years.
