The try came against the run of play.

Francis Manuleleua scored the opening try of the 2026 NRL Grand Final for the Newcastle Knights against the Sydney Roosters. Playing in just his 15th career NRL match following his debut earlier in the season, Manuleleua crossed over after a controversial penalty granted the Knights an opportunity.
The try came against the run of play during the decider held at Accor Stadium on October 4, 2026. Manuleleua's score gave Newcastle the early advantage over the Roosters in the championship contest.
