James Tedesco was on the minds of Sydney Roosters powerbrokers in 2025. They wanted to honour a true club great.
Sydney Roosters powerbrokers recruited veteran halfback Daly Cherry-Evans primarily to help captain James Tedesco win a third NRL premiership before his retirement, according to analysis by Christian Nicolussi. Club leaders were reportedly concerned that Tedesco might finish his career with only two titles and brought in Cherry-Evans after he became available following contract negotiations with Manly.
Tedesco praised the 37-year-old playmaker's physical condition, big-game experience, and leadership alongside young halfback Sam Walker. Cherry-Evans spent 15 seasons with Manly before making the move to the Roosters, expressing his desire to deliver a title for Tedesco ahead of the upcoming grand final.
