NRL boss Peter V’landys has reaffirmed the league’s stance that the PNG Chiefs won’t be able to sign players to contracts that are under market value.
Sydney Roosters halfback Sam Walker is looking to finalize a new contract before hitting the open market on November 1. Following Walker's Kangaroos debut against Fiji, the Roosters have reportedly offered the 24-year-old a four-year contract extension worth $6 million, which he hopes to resolve prior to Australia's upcoming clash against the Cook Islands.
Meanwhile, ARL Commission chairman Peter V'landys has reaffirmed that expansion club PNG Chiefs will not be permitted to register deals below market value to manipulate the salary cap. The ruling follows the Chiefs' tax-free offer to Canberra Raiders forward Hudson Young, which the NRL insists must be capped at true market worth.
