Butch James believes Handré Pollard still has a big role to play for the Springboks at next year’s World Cup.

Former Springbok flyhalf Butch James stated that Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is his first-choice flyhalf for South Africa. However, James emphasized that veteran Handré Pollard remains an essential squad member heading into the 2027 World Cup in Australia. Speaking to IOL, James highlighted Pollard's temperament, experience, and physical fitness as key assets that make him an invaluable option.
James outlined his preferred depth chart, designating Pollard as the direct backup should Feinberg-Mngomezulu suffer an injury, with Manie Libbok serving as third choice. Although Feinberg-Mngomezulu has brought an attacking edge that reduced Pollard's playing time, James asserted that Pollard remains one of the best flyhalves South Africa has ever produced.
