Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx has explained his decision to leave the Kubota Spears and return to South Africa.

Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx has announced he will leave Japanese club Kubota Spears at the end of the 2026-27 season to return to South Africa. The World Rugby Player of the Year cited family circumstances for his decision not to renew his contract. SARugbymag.co.za understands that Marx has signed with the Bulls for his return.
Marx joined the Spears in 2021, scoring 41 tries in 68 appearances and helping the team capture the 2022-23 League One title. Kubota general manager Hironori Maekawa praised Marx's leadership and legacy, while the forward emphasized his commitment to finishing his final season with the club on a high note.
