The former centre said the experience shaped his career after Gatland called him out in front of the entire Wales team and staff

Former Wales centre Jamie Roberts revealed on the Dodge Woodall Podcast how coach Warren Gatland publicly humiliated him during a team meeting ahead of a Six Nations match. Following his breakout performance as player of the series on the 2009 British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa, Gatland called Roberts out in front of around 70 players and staff, asking him when he would focus on rugby instead of fame.
Roberts admitted he was initially furious after being ridiculed in front of his teammates, but he later felt deeply grateful for Gatland's intervention. He described the moment as essential for keeping him grounded during his early career, noting that Gatland knew how to push his players' buttons and had the biggest impact on his rugby journey.
