Founded in 1882, Clonmel finally achieved senior status in 2019. Rugby in Tipperary is experiencing a bit of a boom at the momen.

Tipperary rugby club Clonmel RFC continues to build on a homegrown, amateur ethos after establishing itself in the All-Ireland League. The club maintains a strict policy of not paying any players, choosing instead to focus on community roots, providing accommodation, and assisting with local jobs. The squad features mostly local talent alongside overseas additions and Ireland-born Philippines international Sean Sweetman.
Clonmel's rise follows significant milestones, including Denis Leamy launching his coaching career there after retiring as a player. Former players also include Dave Foley and Sean Reidy. Now competing in Division 2B South, the debt-free club is focusing on facility upgrades and strong youth development through its award-winning minis section.
