The 2026 World Rugby U20 Challenger began in Santiago, Chile, with dominant wins for the tournament hosts and Canada alongside close European victories. Chile defeated Hong Kong China 83-19, while Canada set a national under-20 record with a 95-6 thrashing of Namibia behind hat-tricks from wingers Briar Barron and Malin Hazl.
Elsewhere, Belgium achieved a significant 22-15 upset against Portugal in Pool B, sealed by late scores from Samuel Meksoud and Zian Deage. In the tournament opener, Romania edged Brazil 27-26 thanks to Alexandru Boldor's second try and decisive kicking from Antonio Mitrea.
