Once a fearsome rugby hardman who carried an axe in his kit bag, Jones has turned his life around after finding God in a police cell

Former Treorchy RFC rugby player Chris Jones has detailed his dramatic journey from on-pitch violence to personal redemption in his new autobiography, From Rucks to Redemption: My Life-changing Story. Known as the only player in rugby history to receive two lifetime bans from the Welsh Rugby Union, Jones experienced a life-altering turning point following a serious arrest in Brecon that led him to embrace Christian faith.
Since transforming his life, Jones has spent over three decades serving as the senior rugby development officer for Rhondda Schools Rugby. His mentorship contributed to ten Dewar Shield victories and helped develop multiple Wales internationals, a contribution officially recognized when King Charles III awarded him an MBE in the 2026 New Year Honours.
