Wallabies winger Darby Lancaster has relocated to New Zealand to play for Hawke's Bay in the NPC and has signed a Super Rugby Pacific contract with the Blues starting in 2027. Despite committing his immediate future to New Zealand rugby, Lancaster revealed he has not ruled out a potential return to Australia's rugby sevens program for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Lancaster previously featured for Australia Sevens, winning the 2021-22 World Rugby Sevens Series title and the 2022 Hong Kong Sevens before making his Wallabies debut against Georgia in 2024. He has played seven matches for Hawke's Bay this season and acknowledged that while his current priority remains the 15-a-side format, sevens remains a vital part of his rugby foundation.
