The comments followed South Africa's narrow 42-38 defeat to Australia in Perth, where Erasmus fielded a heavily altered lineup with 13 changes. Only Handre Pollard, Eben Etzebeth, and Franco Mostert held over 50 caps in the starting XV, yet the squad nearly overcame a 42-17 second-half deficit.
