Alex Eala ended her Asian Games campaign with a bronze medal, but the 21-year-old leaves Nagoya with a clear sense of pride after choosing to represent the Philippines at the event.
Alex Eala concluded her Asian Games campaign in Nagoya by winning a bronze medal in singles for the Philippines. The 21-year-old entered as the top seed but fell short of the gold-medal match after losing 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to China's Wang Xiyu in the semifinals.
Eala chose to compete in the tournament instead of the mandatory WTA 1000 China Open, risking a $10,000 fine, lost ranking points, and potential WTA Finals qualification. Winning gold would have secured her spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
