Alexander Zverev had already secured the World No. 1 ranking by reaching the quarterfinals at the Vienna Open.

Alexander Zverev drew backlash from tennis fans after repeatedly arguing with chair umpire Arnaud Gabas about ball consistency during his Vienna Open semifinal defeat. Zverev lost 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) to Alex de Minaur at the Wiener Stadthalle on Saturday, leading many supporters to criticize his on-court complaints as excuses for his performance. He also successfully argued against a late time violation in the final set before dropping the decisive tiebreak.
Despite the defeat, Zverev had already secured the World No. 1 ranking by reaching the tournament's quarterfinals. The 29-year-old German is set to overtake Italy's Jannik Sinner to become the oldest first-time World No. 1 since 1974.
