Juan Carlos Ferrero has stirred controversy after weighing in on the debate over who the best player is between his former protégé Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Carlos Alcaraz fans strongly criticized former coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after he claimed Jannik Sinner holds the statistical edge over Alcaraz. In an interview with Punto de Break, Ferrero remarked that while his heart favored Alcaraz, he would choose Sinner based on current numbers. Supporters questioned his reasoning, highlighting Alcaraz's seven Grand Slam titles compared to Sinner's five Majors, and accused Ferrero of lingering bitterness following their split.
Alcaraz and Ferrero ended their seven-year partnership in December 2025. In the same interview, Ferrero praised Sinner for claiming five consecutive Masters 1000 titles and commended Alexander Zverev for securing two Grand Slam trophies this season. Sinner ended his season early due to a knee injury, while Alcaraz is slated to play at the Shanghai Masters.
