Rafael Jodar defeated fifth seed Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday to advance to the Shanghai Masters final. By reaching his maiden ATP Masters 1000 championship match, the 20-year-old Spaniard became the first player born in 2006 or later to reach a final at this tournament level. He will face compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first all-Spanish Masters 1000 final since 2017.

With the victory, Jodar reached 20 career Masters 1000 main draw wins in just 26 matches. He is also one victory away from breaking Boris Becker's record for the quickest transition from the top 100 to the top 10.
