"I think of you. I miss you. I love you, my boy."

Roger Federer paid tribute to his long-time compatriot and friend Stan Wawrinka, who played the final match of his professional career at the 2026 Swiss Indoors in Basel. The 41-year-old Swiss icon retired after a 7-5, 7-6(2) first-round defeat to Jiri Lehecka. In a video message shared by SRF Sport, Federer praised Wawrinka's incredible career and recalled their shared triumphs.
Federer and Wawrinka notably won doubles gold together at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and led Switzerland to their sole Davis Cup victory in 2014. Wawrinka, who debuted professionally in 2002, concludes his career with 16 ATP Tour singles titles, including three Grand Slam championships, and a 590-395 match record.
