Sonay Kartal claimed one of the best wins of the career as she sunk world number six Elina Svitolina to reach the semifinals of the Wuhan Open.

Great Britain's Sonay Kartal upset World No. 6 Elina Svitolina 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to reach the semifinals of the Wuhan Open. Playing in just her third tournament since returning from a six-month back injury layoff, the 24-year-old converted her first match point in the deciding set to secure a place in the last four of a WTA 1000 event for the first time in her career.
Kartal captured the opening set in 33 minutes before Svitolina leveled the match in the second. In a tight final set, Kartal capitalized on late errors from Svitolina while serving at 4-5 to seal the victory. Her run in Wuhan also includes earlier wins over Belinda Bencic and Jasmine Paolini.
