Alexander Zverev is now one win from rising to world No. 1.

Top seed Alexander Zverev saved four match points to defeat Spanish wild card Martin Landaluce 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(11) in the first round in Vienna. The intense battle lasted three hours and five minutes, with Landaluce also saving four match points before Zverev ultimately closed out the final-set tiebreak.
With the victory, the 29-year-old German stands just one win away from claiming the world No. 1 ranking for the first time on Monday. Zverev will secure the top ranking if he defeats either Tallon Griekspoor or Brandon Nakashima to reach the tournament quarterfinals.
