Matthias Jaissle tried to make sense of Newcastle's defeat at Everton last night - and knows there are signs things are improving…

Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle has rejected suggestions that his team possesses a weak mindset following a Carabao Cup defeat against Everton. Newcastle conceded three goals from defensive errors at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Dan Burn's goal serving only as a consolation. Jaissle urged his squad to display greater maturity and eliminate costly defensive giveaways.
Despite creating 28 attempts on goal and entering Everton's penalty area 37 times, Newcastle struggled with wasteful finishing. Jaissle emphasized that his squad must become far more clinical in front of goal, stressing that having a young squad can no longer be used as an excuse.
