The NBA has announced new agreements with prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi, naming them preferred prediction-market exchanges. The partnership allows both platforms to use official league data, intellectual property, and team logos. However, the deal sparked intense backlash online from basketball fans, who voiced strong frustration regarding the expansion of betting-adjacent platforms and criticized Commissioner Adam Silver for legitimizing prediction markets.
Under the new terms, the league maintains control over which trades the platforms can offer, aiming to identify suspicious activity and prevent insider trading. The announcement comes alongside an expanded deal with sportsbook partner DraftKings, with potential expansions for partners like FanDuel and Fanatics to follow.
