Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II exited Sunday's Week 4 contest against the San Francisco 49ers with an ankle injury late in the second quarter. Surtain went down without contact while backpedaling in coverage and was helped off the field by medical personnel. According to NFL Network, early indications suggest he avoided a worst-case scenario and his Achilles tendon remains intact.
Surtain is scheduled to undergo further evaluation on the ankle to assess the full severity. His exit left Denver depleted in the secondary, as fellow starting cornerback Riley Moss was also ruled out with a ribs injury during the game.
