The New York Post's Joel Sherman expects the Yankees to try to trade former Rookie of the Year Luis Gil this offseason.

The New York Yankees are expected to aggressively pursue a trade for right-handed pitcher Luis Gil before the November 20 contract tender deadline, according to New York Post insider Joel Sherman. Gil is projected by MLB Trade Rumors to earn $2.3 million in arbitration next season. If the club fails to complete a trade, they could consider non-tendering him, which would allow the former Rookie of the Year to become a free agent.
Gil was named American League Rookie of the Year in 2024 but has battled injuries and control issues across recent campaigns. He pitched just 27 1/3 innings across nine Major League appearances in 2026, posting a 4.61 ERA. With the Yankees unlikely to include him in their 2027 starting rotation, the front office must determine whether to retain him as a bullpen option or move on via a permanent trade.
