JJ Redick outlines Bronny James' role after the Lakers' win over Sacramento, offering a clue about his future amid a looming roster cut.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick revealed Bronny James could serve as a reserve ballhandler as the team faces a final roster cut. Following a 114-110 preseason victory over the Sacramento Kings, Redick explained that James, Jaden Hardy, or Chris Mañon will step into the backcourt rotation whenever Luka Doncic or Collin Sexton is unavailable. James recorded four points, six assists, and four rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench during Thursday's win.
The Lakers currently carry 16 players on standard contracts and must waive or trade one player to reach the 15-man regular-season limit. Through three preseason games, James has averaged 3.7 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.3 rebounds in 19.7 minutes per game. Redick noted that availability across an 82-game season creates regular opportunities for reserve guards to contribute.
