Max Verstappen may have a grid penalty looming over the final six races of 2026, should he need any engine components replaced before the end of the season.

Max Verstappen has acknowledged that he could face an engine grid penalty during the final stretch of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Speaking ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, the four-time champion confirmed that taking a penalty before the year concludes is potentially on the cards if components require replacement.
Verstappen is currently utilizing his final allocation of several power unit components, including the internal combustion engine, turbocharger, MGU-K, energy store, and exhaust system. His car has already suffered two power unit-related retirements in 2026, stemming from a coolant leak in China and an engine failure in Monaco.
