Not only did the 49ers miss out on a chance to better their roster, but they lost the opportunity at the hands of a bitter rival.

The Indianapolis Colts have traded guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, dealing a double blow to the San Francisco 49ers. Writer Zane Gelphman of Niner Noise argues that San Francisco missed out on a prime offensive line target who would have addressed their left guard spot, while simultaneously watching an NFC West division rival acquire him to strengthen their roster.
Gelphman notes that Seattle's improved offensive front will challenge the 49ers' pass rush in their upcoming Week 12 rematch in Santa Clara. He argues that general manager John Lynch must seek reinforcements before the November trade deadline rather than remaining inactive as rivals improve.
