Making the right read on which buttons to push is an intangible quality for a coach. Harbaugh demonstrated that ability last week.

New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh reset his team's culture ahead of their 27-21 overtime win against the Houston Texans. Following an uneasy stretch and internal friction, Harbaugh made decisive roster moves by releasing veteran running back Najee Harris and outside linebacker Jihad Ward. He also chose to start newly acquired quarterback J.J. McCarthy over veteran Jameis Winston, steering the Giants to first place in the NFC East at 4-2-1 entering their bye week.
Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson made crucial tactical adjustments to bolster the victory. McCarthy completed 20-of-28 passes for 252 yards, running back Cam Skattebo rushed for a career-high 124 yards, and linebacker Micah McFadden recorded 10 tackles. The blitz-heavy defense limited Houston to 84 rushing yards, overcoming key absences across the defensive unit.
