Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey sustained an upper-body injury during Wednesday's victory over the Colorado Avalanche. The injury occurred late in the first period when Morrissey attempted to check Avalanche forward T.J. Hughes, missed, and collided with the boards. Morrissey appeared briefly for the start of the second period but did not take another shift, and head coach Scott Arniel provided no immediate post-game update.
Morrissey's absence leaves a significant gap on the Winnipeg blue line, where he led the team with three points and averaged 23:35 of ice time through three games. In his absence, Dylan Samberg logged 25:25 of ice time, and Mario Ferraro skated 23:36. The Jets also carry left-defender Haydn Fleury as depth to help offset Morrissey's absence alongside Neal Pionk and Dylan DeMelo.
