A brace by Will Trenholm was not enough to prevent Gloucester from falling agonisingly short of downing Champions Cup holders Bordeaux following a thrilling 36-36 draw.

Gloucester and Champions Cup holders Bordeaux played out a thrilling 36-36 draw at Kingsholm Stadium. George Skivington’s side pushed the French champions throughout, taking a 24-17 advantage into the half-time break. Will Trenholm scored twice for Gloucester, but a double from Bordeaux winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey helped ensure the visitors left with a share of the spoils.
Bordeaux struck early through Martin Page-Relo before Arthur Clark replied for the hosts, followed by Gloucester tries from Max Llewellyn and George Barton. Bordeaux's other scorers included Sipili Falatea and Pablo Uberti, with Bielle-Biarrey grabbing the equalising score in the 62nd minute before both teams were unable to find a late winner.
