Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has successfully won his appeal against NFL fines totaling $26,867 for celebrations deemed offensive. Williams was originally penalized $14,926 and $11,941, which included a celebration where he pretended to smoke during a Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium. Williams argued the gesture was not offensive and noted that marijuana is legal in both New York and Michigan.
NFL appeals officer Derrick Brooks officially rescinded the fine while advising Williams to celebrate in a professional manner going forward. Teammates Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs were also fined for participating in the celebrations and are awaiting decisions on their appeals.
