Newcastle Thunder have named former Castleford Tigers, Huddersfield Giants, and Wakefield Trinity forward Craig Huby as their new head coach. The 40-year-old takes on his first head coaching role after previously serving as an assistant at Dewsbury Rams, Halifax Panthers, and Sheffield Eagles. Huby replaces Graham Steadman, who stood down after guiding the team to a second-place finish in the Championship.
Huby will be assisted by former Newcastle player Alex Donaghy, while Tom Scott joins as strength and conditioning coach and Peter Ryan as physio. The new coach promised an expansive style of play as Newcastle Thunder transition to a part-time model and become more independent from their partnership with York.
