The Athletics have officially hired Taylor Smith as their new president of baseball operations. The 31-year-old previously served as senior vice president and assistant general manager with the Boston Red Sox. In his new role, Smith will lead Oakland's baseball strategy and front office as the franchise prepares for its planned relocation to Las Vegas in 2028.
Smith spent seven seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays' research and development department before joining the Red Sox in 2024. His appointment follows the August dismissal of longtime general manager David Forst, with the Athletics aiming to rebound after finishing the 2026 season with a 64-98 record.
