The Los Angeles Lakers waived 2024 first-round pick Dalton Knecht on Monday to reduce their roster to the 15-man league maximum. Los Angeles had 16 players under contract ahead of the 5 p.m. ET deadline and had reportedly tried to trade Knecht and another player for a frontcourt addition before opting to waive him.
Knecht was drafted 17th overall out of Tennessee in 2024. After a strong rookie start, his playing time decreased to 10.2 minutes and 4.2 points per game last season. Head coach JJ Redick explained that roster changes and additions at the wing position ultimately limited Knecht's fit on the team.
