The Story in 60 Seconds

Buffalo Sabres general manager Jarmo Kekalainen has addressed recent trade speculation linking the team to Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. Speaking on WGR 550 radio, Kekalainen pushed back on the rumors, stating that receiving inquiries from other clubs does not mean Buffalo is actively pursuing a trade. He reiterated strong confidence in current goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, describing him as a central part of the Sabres' present and future.

Reports from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman previously indicated Buffalo maintains interest in Hellebuyck, who is reportedly open to a trade to Buffalo. A potential swap involving Luukkonen is viewed as unlikely due to his five-team no-trade protection that took effect on July 1. Kekalainen also noted that Buffalo remains confident in its overall goaltending group, including Alex Lyon and Colten Ellis.
