‘Everyone wants to have a go at us’ – Bavuma on life as world champions

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma addressed the scrutiny facing the World Test Champions following their series-levelling victory over Australia in Gqeberha. South Africa recovered from an opening-match loss in Durban to defeat Australia by an innings and 31 runs. Bavuma highlighted how rival teams are eager to challenge the reigning champions, noting that his squad has embraced the heightened expectations and pressure.

After falling behind in Durban, South Africa rebounded by posting 425 for 9 declared, with Bavuma scoring a career-best 179. The hosts dismissed Australia for 99 before enforcing the follow-on, bolstered by the return of pace bowler Kagiso Rabada and key contributions from Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder. The three-match series now moves to Cape Town for the deciding Test.
