The Mariners aren't rushing their culture reset. The Astros are taking a more aggressive approach.

The Houston Astros have hired Spencer Medick as director of pitching and Conner Watson as director of hitting, contrasting with the Seattle Mariners' slower offseason pace. Medick was hired from the New York Yankees and Watson from the Cleveland Guardians, with both coaches having backgrounds at Driveline Baseball. Writer Zachary Rymer argues these moves mark Houston's return to data-driven innovation under owner Jim Crane following an 81-81 division-winning season.
Rymer notes that while the Astros act aggressively before an impending December 1 lockout, Seattle is deliberately taking time to replace manager Dan Wilson and several coaching staff members. Although Seattle retains Edgar Martinez and Trent Blank as hitting and pitching directors, Rymer suggests the Mariners need a collaborative reset rather than rushing premature course corrections before their next manager is hired.
