The 36-year-old hasn’t played for India since the ICC Champions Trophy in March 2025. While he continues to turn up for Bengal in the domestic circuit, the persistent absence from the national set-up has raised questions about his fitness standards.…
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami addressed questions surrounding his fitness and bowling spells after being omitted from India's upcoming tour of New Zealand. Speaking in Palam after Bengal's Ranji Trophy match against Services, Shami dismissed external criticism regarding his spell lengths, insisting that his bowling workload depends entirely on pitch conditions, match situations, and the captain's tactical decisions.
The 36-year-old pacer, who last played internationally at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, stated he still feels at his peak and has not given up hope of representing India again. Shami also explained his absence from the Services match was a tactical decision to rest on an unhelpful pitch and provide opportunities to younger players.
