The young goalie struggled with consistency last season. After offseason tweaks and two convincing performances, he looks poised for more.

San Jose Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov is demonstrating significant progress in net, recently leading his team to a 6-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators highlighted by a spectacular diving glove save on Drake Batherson. After an inconsistent 2025-26 campaign, the 24-year-old netminder has delivered back-to-back strong performances, including stopping 29 of 31 shots against the Toronto Maple Leafs, helping the Sharks open the season with a 6-5-1 record.
San Jose acquired Askarov from the Nashville Predators in 2024 to serve as their franchise goaltender and end a seven-year playoff drought. Following an offseason regimen that included adjusted nutrition and strength training, Askarov entered training camp 10 pounds heavier. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky and general manager Mike Grier emphasized that maintaining consistency is vital for Askarov to firmly establish himself as the team's reliable primary starter.
