Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper hosted the ninth annual Coop’s Catch for Kids charity fishing tournament on Monday, raising $500,000 for pediatric cancer research. The initiative, which brings together players, patients, and their families, has now generated more than $2 million since its inception in 2016.
Cooper was inspired to launch the event after befriending Tony Colton, a young cancer patient who passed away in 2017. Tournament proceeds have supported various causes, including the Coop’s Catch for Kids Family Lounge at Tampa General Hospital, where Cooper recently received the NHL's Jack Adams Award.
