Aston Martin has announced that reserve driver Jak Crawford will replace Lance Stroll for the opening practice session of the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix. The 21-year-old American will drive Stroll's AMR26 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez to fulfill the team's mandatory rookie practice requirements. Stroll is scheduled to return to the cockpit for the remainder of the race weekend alongside teammate Fernando Alonso.
The session marks Crawford's fourth and final FP1 appearance of the season, having previously driven in Japan, Austria, and Belgium. F1 regulations require teams to run rookie drivers in four FP1 sessions per season, and Aston Martin clarified that the driver change is not related to any injury.
