Eddie Howe was earning £6million a year on Tyneside and was told he couldn't walk away for nothing by Newcastle chiefs…

Manchester United will have to pay a multi-million compensation fee to Newcastle United if they want to hire Eddie Howe. The former Newcastle manager features prominently on Manchester United director Jason Wilcox's wish list as current boss Michael Carrick faces immense pressure at Old Trafford.

Lee Ryder notes that Sir Jim Ratcliffe must approve a significant payout to hire Howe, mirroring United's previous compensation deal for Dan Ashworth in 2024.
