Newcastle United have named Tomas Amaral as their new head of first-team recruitment. The 35-year-old replaces Steve Nickson, who left the club after 15 years to become sporting director at Wrexham. Amaral will collaborate directly with sporting director Ross Wilson and other recruitment staff to identify first-team talent and expand Newcastle's scouting operations.
Amaral most recently served as sporting director at Spartak Moscow following a four-and-a-half-year stint as a senior scout at Benfica. During his time with Benfica, he was involved in recruitment deals including Enzo Fernandez and Darwin Nunez, aligning with Wilson's long-term player trading strategy.
