  • The 2025 seventh-round draft pick had previously missed his entire rookie season due to a back injury.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Green Bay Packers offensive lineman John Williams made an unexpected NFL debut at center against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. After starting center Sean Rhyan suffered an ankle injury and backup Jacob Monk left with a quad injury on the same opening drive, Williams stepped in for 58 offensive snaps. Although Green Bay lost 20-17, the game marked a significant personal milestone for Williams after he missed his entire 2025 rookie season following back surgery.

Williams had taken very few practice reps at center with starting quarterback Jordan Love prior to the game. However, with Monk now on injured reserve and Rhyan sidelined, Williams is in line to see extended action as head coach Matt LaFleur prepares the injury-depleted Packers for a Thursday night matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
